Daily Bread

Hi Everybody

Now Dinah [Dee nau]

the daughter of Leah,

whom she had borne to Jacob,

went out to see the women of the land.

Genesis 34:1

What a pity that she chose to socialise

and to worldly socialise at that.

Had she stayed close to home

then she would not have been raped.

'He who dwells in the secret place of the most High

shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.'

Psalm 91:1 and indeed all Psalm 91

But John reminds us of the parable of the lost sheep

and how Jesus would leave ninety nine just sheep

and go looking for the one that is lost.

"I say to you likewise

there will be more joy in heaven

over one sinner [Dee nau] who repents

than over ninety nine just persons

who need no repentance."

Jesus speaking in Luke 15:7 of Luke 15:1-7

Hi Everybody

"Please accept my blessing

that is brought to you,

because God has dealt graciously with me,

and because I have enough."

Jacob talking to Esau in Genesis 33:11

Today our Lord Jesus prompted me to bless

a small business owner under hardship from Covid.

She never seemed to have a biro with her signing-in book.

Jesus drew my attention to the fact that I had two charity pens

besides what I was currently using.

John reminded me to ask permission first -

no going in like the Lady Bountiful and just doing it.

So I asked permission

and she was delighted to receive the biro

and the piece of string to tie it round the book,

And I learnt a lesson about asking permission!

Hi Everybody

Then He said,

"Your name shall no longer be called Jacob,

but Israel,

for you have striven with

with God and with men,

and have prevailed."

The Man wrestling with Jacob

in Genesis 32:28

John reminds us that we will be given

a new name in heaven

known only to ourselves and Him.

"He who has an ear, let him hear

what the Spirit says to the churches.

To him who overcomes

I will give some of the hidden manna to eat.

And I will give him a white stone,

and on the stone a new name written

which no one knows except

him who receives it."

Jesus speaking to John

concerning the compromising church in Pergamos,

Revelation 2:17

"He who overcomes,

I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God,

and he shall go out no more.

And I will write on him

the name of My God,

the new Jerusalem,

which comes down out of heaven

from My God.

And I will write on him My new name."

Jesus speaking to the angel of the church in Philadelphia,

in Revelation 3:12

Hi Everybody

"I am not worthy

of the least

of all the deeds of steadfast love

and of all the faithfulness

that you have shown to Your servant."

Jacob speaking to the God of his father Abraham and the God of his father Isaac

in Genesis 32:10

'For I am the least of all the apostles,

who am not worthy to be called an apostle,

because I persecuted the church of God.'

Saint Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:9

'To me,

who am less than the least of all the saints,

this grace was given,

that I should preach among the Gentiles

the unsearchable riches of Christ,'

Saint Paul in Ephesians 3:8

'This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance,

that

Christ Jesus came into the world

to save sinners,

of whom I am the chief.'

Saint Paul in 1 Timothy 1:15

Hi Everybody

Early in the morning

Laban arose

and kissed his grandchildren and his daughters

and blessed them.

Genesis 31:55

'blessed':barak:declare blessed.

"Blessed are you

when they revile and persecute you,

and say all kinds of evil against you falsely

for My sake.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad,

for great is your reward in heaven,

for so they persecuted the prophets

who were before you."

Jesus speaking in Matthew 5:11,12

Our Lord Jesus Himself declared these people 'blessed'.

Hi Everybody

"God saw my affliction and the labor of my hands

and rebuked you last night."

Jacob speaking to Laban in Genesis 31;42

Therefore,

my beloved brethren,

be steadfast, unmoveable,

always abounding in the work of the Lord,

knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Hi Everybody

Then the LORDsaid to Jacob,

"Return to the land of your fathers

and to your kindred.,

and I will be with you."

Genesis 31:3

God's timing

and ourselves obediently responding to God's timing

are of key essence.

'Wait (in faith) on the LORD;

Be of good courage,

And He shall strengthen your heart.

Wait, I say, on the LORD!

David in Psalm 27:14

Hi Everybody

"For you had little before I came,

and it has increased abundantly,

and the LORD has blessed you

wherever I turned."

Jacob talking to Laban in Genesis 30:30

"I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;

And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

The LORD to Abram in Genesis 12:3

"But go rather to the lost sheep

of the house of Israel."

Jesus speaking in Matthew 10:6

A good missionary principle

is to go first to God's holy chosen people

wherever they are in whichever town you may be living.

Hi Everybody

She ... bore a son,

and said,

"This time I will praise the LORD."

Therefore she called his name Judah.

Genesis 29:35

It suddenly occurred to me today

Leah had been craving Jacob's affection

but was disappointed.

She reached the point of commitment

where she was going to praise God anyway,

even in the midst of rejection.

Judah means 'praise'.

The word 'Jew' means praise.

'But Thou art holy,

O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.'

Hi Everybody

So Jacob served seven years for Rachel,

and they seemed to him but a few days

because of the love he had for her.

 Genesis 29:20

John reminds us that Jesus

has already served three and one half years

of the seven year ministry period

at His first coming.

The tribulation period is just three and a half Jewish years

Jesus is the one chosen to minister the tribulation
